The Show Must Go On – Top Theater to See in DC

This summer and fall, Washington has a great theater season ready to wow you, whenever you’re in town. Here are a few of our favorite current and upcoming shows. If you need help getting tickets, be sure to ask the concierge.

Capital Fringe Festival – All over town, alternative theater and art is happening through July 25th. For tickets to specific events or passes to multiple events, see the box office. See a complete show listing.

Signature Theater – Through July 24th, Signature Theater is offering sizzling summer cabaret before their fall season kicks off on August 10th with the musical Chess featuring the hit single One Night in Bangkok.

Studio Theater – This summer Studio Theater offers Passing Strange, starting July 14th, which follows a rock musician on his quest for authenticity.

Kennedy Center Mary Poppins is practically perfect in every way at the Kennedy Center through August 22nd.  The fall season includes Hair, South Pacific, a Chekhov festival, and Wicked.

Arena Stage – Did you miss Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Ladies? Arena Stage has a great season planned including The Arabian Nights, an Edward Albee Festival and the pre-Broadway run of an adaptation of John Grisham’s A Time to Kill.

Woolly Mammoth – Through August 1st, you can see the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy as a one man show performed in 65 minutes – One Man Lord of the Rings.

Folger Theatre and Shakespeare Library – The Folger’s season starts  this fall on October 12th with Henry VIII. And don’t miss their special celebrations on April 25th each year for Shakespeare’s birthday.

Shakespeare Theater Company Shakespeare Free for All – This year’s Free for All will be at Sidney Harman Hall near Chinatown – Gallery Place metro and not at Carter Barron. Tickets will be distributed two hours before curtain time (or become a Friend of Free for All and get reserved tickets).
